The alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis assay (Comet Assay) can be used as an indicator of genotoxicity of compounds. The Comet Assay is an attractive test because of its fast turnaround time and need for only a small amount of test article or biological sample. Because the Comet Assay evaluates the DNA breakage while only using a very small amount of biological sample, it can be applied to in vitro and in vivo applications. The Comet Assay is now also listed as a test which can add weight of evidence in regulatory submissions.
